Ok, after almost genuinely a sleepless night (the question of "What am I going to play at Nationals?" bugged me, and after that was answered the excitement kept me awake) I finally figured out what I want to play at nationals.
(Oh, by the way, I qualified for nationals, by playing Durham's Zoo deck.)
For me, I first check what are my chances against Zoo, if I have a good ratio, then I know I am set against all aggro... Gruul included.
So far, this deck has been tested against Zoo, and it comes out tops... I still have to test against Greater Good, and Ghazi Glare (which is big here in Cape Town)...
Anyway here it is... Blood Moon is the winner. :-)
Deckname: Warp the Bloody Moon
Designer: Reenen Laurie
4 Mountain
5 Plains
4 Temple Garden
9 Forest
4 Loxodon Hierarch
4 Faith's Fetters
4 Anarchist
4 Warp World
3 Carven Caryatid
3 Blood Moon
3 Heartbeat of Spring
2 Sensei's Divining Top
4 Birds of Paradise
4 Sakura-Tribe Elder
3 Utopia Sprawl
SB: 3 Cranial Extraction
SB: 1 Swamp
SB: 4 Defense Grid
SB: 1 Island
SB: 3 Confiscate
SB: 3 Ivory Mask
Tiaan says his plays Kumano too, and I think it's a good idea to get some "burning" going…

Blood Moon main deck? You'll probably kick my deck in the jaw via the nether regions.
I see that defense grid is in for the counter match up. What about suppression field for ghazi glare and greater good?
Yes... Blood moon!
Supression field... hmmm... I was thinking ivory mask and faiths are good enough (because I can faiths the greater good after a warp) and confiscate. (I'll probably side out 1 faiths, 1 hierarch for 2 confiscates... Maybe I should side just 2, when will I ever side 3?)
Paying 2 extra isn't a lot if there is a heartbeat in play though...
Maybe a priviledged position?
(Oh, by the way, I qualified for nationals, by playing Durham's Zoo deck.)
yes he qualified with my deck.
Wel done.
To the point i would say take out the blood moon main and replace them with the red hunted because it adds to your "warp world" count.
the shock lands are -not- worth it becaus if the come into play with warp you have to take 2 and then you may not nesaceraly (sp?) be able to afford the life lose and then you wont be able to work again.
play galvanic arc because it is a permant and deals 3 damage to a player so you try combo with it (warp, arc hartbeat and anarchist and just warp infanitly each turn)
hmmm prehaps overgrowth insted of utopia sprawl (it adds GG insted on one of your choice)
Ah well thats my 2cents use it dont use.
Ill discus it a bit more with you on friday.
Durham
Durham, thank you for your comments.
I have been touching up the deck somewhat, but here's my views (especially about bloodmoon).
Blood moon kills the other deck, and changes my early game temple gardens (which is meant to make sure I can play a loxodon and or a faiths), into mountains, to enable me to cast warp world easier.
90% of the time when I get a bloodmoon out I win... simply because the other deck struggles.
Because you first reveal the cards, you may wait to see whether you'll be able to resolve another warp world before you choose to bring them into play tapped or untapped. I'll probably draw as much life gain as I draw temple gardens anyway.
Usually resolving 1 warp world is enough to win...
Galvanic arc is a consideration, but hunted is IMHO a better option. (Though arc is cheaper and can be hard cast)
Overgrowth costs 2... and color in the early game is important.
NeCaSSary (1 coat 2 socks) I only recently learnt how to spell it myself. :-)
Ok, so this is how the deck looks now:
//NAME: Bloody Moon
4 Mountain
5 Plains
4 Temple Garden
9 Forest
1 Hunted Dragon
2 Loxodon Hierarch
4 Faith's Fetters
2 Galvanic Arc
3 Anarchist
4 Warp World
3 Carven Caryatid
3 Blood Moon
3 Heartbeat of Spring
3 Sensei's Divining Top
4 Birds of Paradise
4 Sakura-Tribe Elder
2 Utopia Sprawl
SB: 3 Cranial Extraction
SB: 1 Swamp
SB: 4 Defense Grid
SB: 1 Island
SB: 3 Confiscate
SB: 3 Ivory Mask
I think the hunted is equaly as good as arc.
the arc kills your opponent in one turn (once you combo) can the hunted do that? Then again the hunted is warp count for you.
VErdict chose both.
But i think go for the bule hunted (5 tokens OMFG)
eamil or sms me sometime so we can
set up a game on apprentice or ws.
I have a comppleatly diffrent idea about the deck ill post it soon
No, only the red hunted has haste... The point is that you warp... attack, and then warp again immediately.
(You can't always do that, but it's the idea)
Play wood evlves insted of sakura.
you can mostly make 3 on turn 2 and its 2 for your "warp count".
anyhow see you tonite?
Wood elves is a very good idea... it only fetches forests though... and sakura fetches the correct colors... with bloodmoon it's sometimes quite important.
Two or three can be quite good. It can ensure you can cast the second warp world if you need the mana. I may use stomping grounds instead of mountains then. But then the pain gets even more!
No, it was not in my plans to come tonight, but I might.
Come tonite well give me a sms if you do.
the wood evles get the shocks (im still agaist the shocks).
drop the caryateds for 1 more anarchist and 2 more arcs IMFO
its like you ppl r speaking another language..
let us know how nationals went?
i miss magic.. it was one of those things that went when varsity became i thing of the past for me..
*sigh*
