Cape town CBD tree hugger
This to me was just so cool. The tree was obviously put there a while back, and my best guess is because of prodominant wind forces it grew less straight than the original planters had hoped. What really caused me to take the picture, was the way the tree engulfs the barrier.

I couldn't see what you were trying to say about engulfing the barrier, but didn't it occur to you that it looks rather phallic?
Yes... The barrier has been overgrown... there is a piece of steel embedded in the tree. They (I guess the municipality) had to cut the barrier (you'll notice that the barrier has been cut on the sides) so that the tree can continue its (you say phallic) natural way to grow.
